Our beautiful, talkative, social, artistic, musical, sporty, firstborn son is two years old today.

Well, if you weren’t invited to the party this year, that’s cuz there wasn’t one.

debonair

When I went in to see him this morning and sang Happy Birthday, I asked him what he wanted to do with his special day. He only had two requests:

  • “Milk in the crib” (ok, we don’t usually allow it, but it’s sorta like breakfast in bed. Too bad we ran out of milk last, which we never do — no whole milk, no nonfat, no soy, nothin’)
  • “I want to sweep and rake and shovel” (Julian has an excellent array of lawn care equipment at his house but we don’t)

Oh crap, I thought hitting the steam trains was going to be a hit.

How did we celebrate? We took him out to breakfast where they serve killer pancakes and crayons. Afterward, I ran into a toy shop to pick up toy broom, rake, and shovel on our way to ride the steam train. Lunch was “anything you want” sandwiches followed by a rather long nap. Then we went to Alec’s buddy, Jeffrey’s 30th birthday party for about 20 minutes and played with nerf ball launchers in the courtyard. Finally, Holden discovered the broom, rake, and shovel and sobbed his way through dinner because we would not let him rake in the house.

We now embark on the era of “twos and threes” — wish us a bon voyage!

  2. Dear Holden, please know we were thinking of you on your special day, and were singing to you long distance! Enjoy that yard work with your new tools, and someday when mom asks you to do that again, try to remember how you begged to do it now! Love, Grammy and Beepa
