Sweet 16

Sweet 16

If you know me, you probably know I like numbers, order, symmetry (control!)… well, how’s this for a happy coincidence: Holden is 16 months old today; and I am 16 weeks pregnant. Pretty amazing!

So much about that control thing.

For starters, Holden is a willful, funny little toddler who likes to do his own thing all the time… unless I intend to leave the room, then it’s “mama, mommy, MAMA!” with all the tears and drama of someone who hates to be alone.

He also loves singing and music. It seems that most new songs are best if they can be sung over and over and over. Don’t get started singing “I’m a little teapot” unless you mean to do it 17 times (”teatop! teatop!”). At least he does often say “please”… so that’s a big plus (”teatop! pease!”). He started playing the harmonica this month. He’s pretty good by my standards so I’ll try to post a video soon. He’s also still a fan of the gee-tar, whether Alec plays it, he plays it, or we hear it in the car — it’s all good. Whitney witnessed that he said “Guitar, Beatles” (or was it “Guitar, George”?) last week… but you can’t get everything recorded.

The other big milestone this month was baby’s first pizza. We took him to a Lanesplitters for thin crust and to Zachary’s for deep-dish and he left with it all over his face. He liked both so we’ll just have to see where his loyalty falls later.

As for me… I’m feeling pretty good and excited and nervous as appropriate. I’ve channelled much of my two-child anxiety into finding the perfect stroller (maybe because the notion of having two babies strapped into a single conveyance sounds so nice).

What I did with my summer vacation

Martha's Vineyard

One good thing about not updating this site more than once a month is that we’re not setting a very high bar for kid #2. Holden loved his summer vacation to see his grandparents, cousins, aunties, uncle, second-cousins, and lots of water! Part one was a week in Martha’s Vineyard with Alec’s folks, and his sister’s family.

Part 2 was our adventure in upstate New York with my mom, Dave, and Meggan. Holden turned a ripe-old 15 months while we were there.
